It doesn’t make sense to invest thousands of dollars in a business that will not survive.
Yet that is what can happen when business migrants do not complete market research in support of their intended business. State Governments are happier to receive applications for sponsorship where the future migrant has proven their intentions to do business in their State, by visiting and doing research.
Although State Governments indicate that it is not compulsory to personally visit their State as part of the application, stay-at-home migrants run the risk of failing to demonstrate genuine intent (a key part of the assessment process at State Government). Uninformed migrants might also end up getting locked into a business concept that they do not enjoy or which has proven to be unprofitable. This is particularly true for Queensland where that State is more reluctant to allow a change of business.
The perceived saving of around $3000 by not making a research visit may put at risk the whole application, which might cost up to $25,000 in some countries for DIAC fee, agent fees, medicals etc.
We always recommend that applicants try to visit Australia before applying to migrate.
There are also many people who would LIKE to visit Australia to do private research but who cannot effectively do so without receiving assistance from within Australia.
On of State Sponsorship Services’ migrant support activities is to develop research itineraries and arrange appointments with relevant business people who have an interest in the future activity. We can also approach State Governments to provide a letter of invitation.
These itineraries usually include commercial real estate agents, business brokers, industry representatives, accountants, State Government business development agencies, potential customers and suppliers etc.
The research visit is either tailored around the intended business or designed to help your client decide which business they would like to pursue.
A side benefit is that our own invitation and the State Government letter will help support an application for a visitor’s permit.
